At the university Deutsch Esperanto 한국어

18. February 2009

The last three days I spent at the campus of the university, at which I will teach from march on. I had never been to this campus before, as it’s located about an bus hour southwards from Seoul in the very east of the city Yongin. However, I know the campus of the same university in Seoul very well, because I attended the korean language course for one year at the neighboring university and then used to live in the same neighborhood for one and a half years.

One might think, that the two campi are similar - it’s the same university - but they are totally different: The campus in Seoul is small and dense. There’s almost no space for new buildings, and therefore the size of the park areas, which usually surround korean universities, is very limited. The lack of space must have been the reason, that besides the campus in Seoul a secound campus in Yongin got established. The campus in Yongin, on the other hand, is very large, is located in a valley surrounded by mountains, has a lot of free space, fresh air and is pleasantly quiet - unlike any place Seoul.

The campus contains a big library, sport facilities, an open air theater and many places, where the students can gather. The seminar rooms are sufficiently big, and I got an office room, that I use with another lecturer of my department.

What I especially like, are my new collegues. The head of the department and the other two korean professors are very friendly and likeable, just like the two german collegues, I do already know. And I’m sure I will also come along well with the third one. As also the student assistants are very nice, I have the feeling, that I will really enjoy my work and my life at this university.

That’s why I’m eagerly trying to get a flat next to university and not, like originally intended by the administration, at the Seoul campus. I like the surrounding of the campus in Yongin too much for being willing to spend more than two hours in the bus from Seoul to Yongin.

Mi estas impresita vidante kiel flue vi skribas nun la esperantan. Evidente vi lernis bone kaj ankaŭ partoprenis en Esperanto-kongreso.

Via korea universitato aspektas moderna kaj ampleksa. Bona komenco de via nova viv-etapo. Mi kore gratulas.

    Saluton Elmar!
